Having seen many of the performances on stages, small screen and cinemas, I always wanted to know what makes an actor, an actor. I always wanted to know what drives them to act, what makes him to perform.
The performance of an actor is not based on his observation, his perception and belief in the character and neither by the conviction of the script. Supposedly the character may be either positive or negative and the actor may not believe in that, because as a human we have the tits and bits of both aspects in life. So what persuade them? It’s the “desire”, the desire to perform.
It’s not about the facial expressions, in theatre the back row audience may not see the actor’s face. They can only see him moving in stage and hear the power of his voice that echoes in the auditorium. It’s also not about the hand and body movements with dialogues because in close up shots for reel performance we may not see whole body and if it’s a long shot or wide shot we don’t see the face. For reel performances there are also number of retakes and dubbing held and every moment is not the same moment.
The actor performs for the moment and when the moment is gone his performance changes may be for better or bitter.
